Stanford Foundation for Orphans and Rural Development (SORD) is a Community Based Organisation formed in 2010 by people who suffered as orphans experiencing the difficulties that orphans face therefore, deciding to intervene to make orphans have equal rights and opportunities.
The main contributing factors to accumulation of orphans in Uganda are a result of HIV/Aids, the insurgency of the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) in Northern Uganda for the past two decades as well as poverty and other related diseases. This has resulted in Uganda having 2.5 million orphans.
SORD is currently operating in the district of Kampala in Kawempe Division and more especially in Amolator in Northern Uganda where its holding most of its actvities
SORD Kampala currently cares for 15 orphans while a large operation in Amolotar is already caring for 40 children as well as many vulnerable children in both areas. Approximately 3 children are adopted every year, majority moving to North America to join a new family.
