ABOUT US

SORD Uganda

Stanford Foundation for Orphans and Rural Development

Our Story Established on April 1, 2019, in Kawempe, Kampala, Uganda, SORD Uganda, which stands for the Stanford Foundation for Orphans and Rural Development, is a beacon of hope for orphaned and vulnerable children facing challenging circumstances. Our journey began with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide education, cultivate literacy, impart vocational skills, nurture discipline and active citizenship, and offer counselling services. We understand that many of these children have experienced traumatic losses, conflicts, and tragedies. That's why we're committed to giving them not only a home but also a safe place to be children, complete with nourishing meals to support their physical and mental well-being. Our Impactful Presence SORD Uganda currently operates two schools, with one located in Kawempe, Kampala, and the other in Amolatar. Our late founder, Moses Omara, a dedicated teacher, saw a need for these educational institutions. When Moses passed away, Jimmy Ogwang stepped into the director's role with remarkable acuity. Jimmy, with a background in teaching, continues to educate and inspire. Calvin Okullu, Moses' younger brother, has joined us as a director and is rapidly growing into his role. Together, Jimmy and Calvin are the driving force behind SORD Uganda. In the UK, Paul Kayes serves as the UK coordinator and has been instrumental in raising awareness, securing sponsorships, and conducting fundraising efforts. Sally Crowe lends her expertise as an advisor for our livestock initiatives.

Spearheading infrastructure projects including the construction of classroom blocks and modern

latrines in Amolatar, installation of piped water and legitimate electricity in Kawempe, and the

creation of a massive 30,000-liter water cistern.

– Supplying mosquito nets and sanitary pads to ensure the health and well-being of our students.

– Assisting families in need through home support initiatives.

– Contributing to the growth of the goat project, which now sustains 36 goats and two sheep.

rotation principle in Amolatar.

– Supporting children through child sponsorship, with the current count at 62 sponsored children.

Our Vision and Future Goals

We are dedicated to continuing our mission to provide quality and affordable education for local
children at both our schools. Our vision includes:

– Becoming a leading institution in providing quality education.
– Opening a third school in Odike B Oyam District to reach more communities.
– Implementing sustainable agriculture practices, such as the Three Sisters crop rotation, to raise soil
fertility and diversify food production.
– Constructing an orphanage to provide a nurturing home for children in need.
– Empowering women and girls through education and employment opportunities.
